Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

CaliperAI is operated by Called Out LLC, dba CaliperAI. This policy explains what data we collect when you use the app, where it goes, and the choices you have.

2. Data Stored on Your Device

Your garage (vehicles you add, their VINs and details, and maintenance logs) is stored in your browser'slocalStorage, along with the demo chat and a random device identifier we use only to tell whether you've picked up a conversation on a different device.

3. Mechanic Chat and Saved Conversations

When you chat with the AI mechanic, we store your conversation on our servers: your messages, the AI's replies, and the vehicle details you gave us (year, make, model, and, if you add it, your VIN and the engine details decoded from it). We do this so you can continue a conversation later, including on another device after you sign in. We keep your conversations, and the email address tied to them, until you ask us to delete them (see Your Choices below).

To answer you, each message is sent together with your vehicle details and the recent conversation through Lovable's AI gateway to Google's Gemini models. We also look up recall campaigns for your vehicle's model year, and decode VINs, using NHTSA's public vehicle databases, which receive the vehicle details or VIN for that lookup.

The VIN scanner reads the barcode on your device, and camera images never leave your phone. The VIN it reads is then used like a VIN you type: stored and sent for the lookups described above.

We record how many free messages you've used and basic usage figures (such as the size of each AI request) to run the free allowance and manage costs.

4. Your Email Address

If you give us your email to keep a chat going, unlock a vehicle report, or sign in, we use it to:

• send you what you asked for, such as a vehicle report or a sign-in code;
• send five short weekly follow-up emails about common problems for your vehicle's model, then a short request for feedback, and, only if you opt in, one email a month. We won't add you to a general newsletter or send other marketing unless you separately opt in;
• link your conversations and vehicle passes to you, so you can sign in on another device.

We send all of our email, including the follow-up emails, through Resend, which receives your email address and the content of each message. Every follow-up email has an unsubscribe link. If you answer the feedback form, we store your answers together with the email address they came from. Your comments are private; we don't publish them.

We don't verify an email address when you first give it to us in the chat. A conversation only becomes available on another device after you sign in with a 6-digit code sent to that address.

5. Payments

Optional Lifetime Vehicle Pass purchases are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details. We pre-fill checkout with the email you gave us, and Stripe receives your vehicle's description and our internal reference numbers for your pass, conversation, and account as metadata for receipt and support purposes. We keep a record of each pass and the email it was bought with.

6. Cookies, Bot Protection & Analytics

CaliperAI does not set marketing or advertising cookies. We set two cookies of our own:

• caliper_id keeps your conversations tied to this browser and keeps you signed in;
• caliper_ent records which vehicle passes this browser has unlocked.

When you start your first chat, we use Cloudflare Turnstile to check that you're not an automated bot. Cloudflare processes information about your browser and device to do this. Stripe may set its own cookies during checkout.

We record product-analytics events (which pages and steps of the app were used, and campaign tags such as where a link was shared) to understand what's working. They're tied to a random per-visit ID, and events inside a chat are also tied to that conversation.

7. Who Processes Your Data

We use these service providers to run CaliperAI: Lovable (hosting and our database), Lovable's AI gateway and Google (AI answers), NHTSA (public vehicle and recall data), Resend (email delivery, including the follow-up emails), Stripe (payments), and Cloudflare (bot protection). We don't sell your personal information.

8. Your Choices

• Unsubscribe from follow-up emails with the link in any of them.
• Clear the data stored on your device at any time by clearing your browser's site data for CaliperAI.
• Ask us to delete your saved conversations and the email address tied to them by emailing report@support.caliperai.us. Please write from the address you used with CaliperAI, so we know the request is really yours. We may keep purchase records where we need them for accounting, tax, or refunds, and we keep your address on a do-not-email list so we never email you again.

9. Children

CaliperAI is meant for people 16 and older, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you believe someone under 16 has given us their information, email us at the address below and we'll delete it.
